Agree with the strategic policies to protect, enhance and link the natural environment. Also agree with the extension of the areas of restraint within and adjoining towns

Areas of restraint not sufficient instrument to adequately protect environment. Demonstrated by ease with which existing areas of restraint are being rubbed out by Preferred Options. They amount to window dressing and do not offer additional protection over Rural Area Polices. AORs need same status as green belt. Further thought to be given on protecting natural landscape. Rural Area policies apply to all real countryside. Greenbelt is artificial measure to prevent conurbations joining. But this makes real countryside. Hence current attack on greenfield by WDC in an attempt to satisfy unreasonable demands of government.
As conservation is applied to old buildings, it ought to be applied to landscapes/countryside as far as development is concerned.

The policy options fail to recognise that Green Belt and Green Field sites on the edge of our towns have immense value and must be protected alongside our parks and gardens.

The loss of green belt land and open spaces will reduce the quality of life for all residents south of the river. The area of restraint should be retained. The plan does not meet the government target that 60% of new building should be on brownfield land. By allowing building on Greenfield land it makes it less economical for companies to regenerate urban areas. More housing should be allocated on the Ford Foundry Site.
