Government's aims in respect of traveller sites are for example; that a) plan-making and decision-taking should protect Green Belt from inappropriate development. b) to reduce tensions between settled and traveller communities in plan-making and planning-decisions c) for local planning authorities to have due regard to the protection of local amenity and local environment.
By compulsary purchasing land it clearly goes against the above and fails to take into account the wishes of local community and land owner and likely breaches the Human Rights Act 1998, Article 8

The Department for Communities and Local Government in 2012 revoked Local Authority / District Council's powers to use compulsory purchase for Gypsy & Traveller sites. This applies both to sites in green belt and open countryside.
However despite this being clear and having been called into Scrutiny in Feb / march 2014 by several District Councillors , WDC are persisting with this policy. There were in the initial list of sites, two where the landowners were keen to sell but these were rejected (not for cogent reasons ) by WDC

See above ref Oakland Farm proposal for gypsy traveller site
I wish to object to the gypsy and traveller site on the Birmingham Road, Oaklands Farm. I feel strongly that it is not in keeping with the environment and tourist community close to the market town Warwick & walks to the canal waterways. I think it will be very dangerous for large caravans and lorries turning onto that stretch of Birmingham Road and have already seen several accidents there. I also feel it is extremely dangerous for young families in that position , who will naturally be tempted to cross the road to go up to the parkland and walkway opposite.
