I agree with this policy because protecting open spaces is essential for both people and nature. These areas provide vital habitats for wildlife, help maintain biodiversity, and offer recreational benefits for communities. Preserving open spaces also prevents overdevelopment, ensuring a balanced and sustainable environment. They contribute to cleaner air, improved well-being, and climate resilience. By safeguarding open spaces, we protect the natural beauty of our surroundings and ensure future generations can enjoy them.

the 400m threshold should be removed from the policy. Where there is a need for open space to be provided off-site, the nature of that provision should be determined on the basis of the location of that site.

Protection of existing open spaces is important, however the emerging policy should refer to the varying qualities of open space in applying any safeguarding approach.

The addition of the protection of public footpaths as linear open spaces which fulfil a key leisure and amenity role would enhance the protection of open spaces.

Yes. The provision of new open space where there is an existing deficiency in quantity, quality and accessibility is very important to many settlements where there is historically a shortfall in what needs to be provided

The provision of open space is very important to many settlements where there is historically a shortfall in what should be provided.
The words of Draft Policy Direction 43c are commendable but ignore the fact that in Shipston on Stour, land for potential Open Spaces is all in private ownership. Landowners and their agents seek the best return on their assets, which means maximizing house building. The result is a town, of 6000+ having no public park. Plenty about protecting Open Spaces but nothing to suggest how they might be established.

This approach is agreed by Alcester Town Council, Arrow with Weethley Parish Council, Kinwarton Parish Council, Wixford Parish Council and Great Alne Parish Council (together referred to as Alcester Parishes Group or ‘APG’).
Open spaces provide important opportunities to improve physical and mental wellbeing and should be protected. All new and existing public open spaces should be taken into public ownership.
A review of open spaces within the Plan Area should be undertaken to establish areas where there is a deficiency.

More recreational and outdoor space is appealing and should be beneficial if new areas meet promised quality and upkeep.
The Rowley Road part of the new SEGRO community park is substandard in terms of suitable parking & walking surfaces and accessibility. Newly planted vegetation struggles to survive and many of the large standards have died. Favoured mainly by dog walkers, and nighttime gatherings, public access to once agricultural land has brought increased littering and antisocial behaviour. Planning strategy indications of local resident involvement in ‘how the park is developed and used’ fragmentedly evolved after agreed designs and commencement of works.

The 400m distance threshold should be removed from the policy as there may be cases where this not practical. Where there is a need for open space to be provided off-site, the nature of that provision should be determined on the basis of the location of that site.
