BFI is the UK’s lead organisation for film and the moving image.
The BFI plays a strong leadership role in areas relating to research, policy development and advocacy for UK film, and has developed one of the largest and most important collections of film and television material in the world – the BFI National Archive.
BFI’s storage facility at Lighthorne, established in 1978, forms an integral part of the BFI’s National Archive. It represents a nationally significant cultural asset in South Warwickshire which should be formally recognised as such in the Local Plan.

BFI is the UK’s lead organisation for film and the moving image. BFI’s storage facility at Lighthorne, established in 1978, forms an integral part of the BFI’s National Archive.
BFI is currently looking at options to expand its operations at the long-established brownfield site at Lighthorne.
Policy Direction 9 should enable existing brownfield sites in rural areas to be developed to enable the growth and expansion of businesses and operations, where appropriate, to support the appropriate expansion of all types of sustainable businesses.
This approach is supported by NPPF paragraphs 11, 85, 88(a), 89, and 124.

BFI supports draft Policy Direction 12 which recognises that sites meeting business and community needs in rural areas may have to be found adjacent to or beyond existing settlements, and in locations that are not well served by public transport. BFI supports that the use of previously developed land will be encouraged where suitable opportunities exist.

This approach is supported by NPPF paras 85, 88(a), and 89.

BFI is seeking to work with the local authorities in seeking to expand its operations at this long-established brownfield site, in order to preserve and enhance the National Archive, in the national and local interests.
BFI thus supports Draft Policy Direction 21.
