Strategic Growth Location SG07 Question
ID sylw: 100728
Derbyniwyd: 07/03/2025
Ymatebydd: Beausale, Hasely, Honiley & Wroxall Parish Council
This proposal, along with B1 (Land at Hatton) will add a development roughly the size of Kenilworth to the west of Warwick. It will effectively merge with Warwick and thus the whole purpose of the greenbelt will be lost.

Potential Settlement Question B1

This proposal would remove valuable agricultural land, and greenbelt land, from the Warwickshire countryside.
The infrastructure to build a town almost the size of Kenilworth does not exist. Whilst building this, traffic would divert through the country , and often single track, lanes in our Parish. We noticed a considerable increase in traffic, and damage to grass verges, with the recent development at Hatton, with traffic avoiding the traffic lights on the A4177. This would happen again if this development proceeds – thus destroying the peace, tranquillity and wellbeing that our parish offers to all residents and visitors.

Do you agree with the approach laid out in Draft Policy Direction 7- Green Belt?

This needs the strongest protection – the Green Belt is not there to be industrialised, it is there to serve a number of valuable functions for people, communities and the environment.
The SWLP will not achieve its objectives if it builds on greenbelt land.

Do you agree with the approach laid out in Draft Policy Direction 9 - Using Brownfield Land for Development?

This statement needs to be strengthened. Brownfield land should ALWAYS be used first for development and brownfield sites should be made safe to accommodate any new potential development.

Do you agree with the approach laid out in Draft Policy Direction-42-Trees, Hedges and Woodland?

This statement makes no mention of the Warwickshire Landscape Guidelines, which is an omission. The SWLP should strive to maintain and enhance the Arden Landscape, otherwise it will be lost if it is omitted.
Reference to tree cover in the draft policy direction is welcome, but should also include hedgerows.
Without a strong policy initiative in this section, it is questionable whether the environmental objectives of SWLP can be achieved.
The Arden Landscape is distinctive to our region and should be actively promoted, not omitted.

Maybe
This draft policy fails to recognise that land not graded as BMV (3b to 5) can still produce valuable crops to feed our nation.
This statement needs to be stronger in protecting our agricultural land for food production.
