Trees not only sequester carbon but add shade, water level moderation and potentially crops. We need more trees, especially in urban areas. I'd like to see "fruit routes" around existing towns and new settlements to introduce fruit and nut trees to the street scene as part of this policy.

I agree with the policy but believe it will be ignored !
It is a bit " motherhood and apple pie ' in sentiment - most would fully agree but sadly we ssem to ignore in practice.
So many examples can be listed of trees and hedges grubbed up and because of high density houses they are not replaced.
Fields should be part of the poicy as well as trees , Hedges and woodland.
Fields once built on are gone for ever !

Increasing tree cover is a laudable aim. When we first moved to the area 20+ years ago a lot of the houses we could afford were in new estates with virtually no trees. Newer estates seem to have done better at including trees and are very much more appealing as a result. Developers must bring in some more mature trees and not just small saplings that may not survive, even though it costs more.

We have one of the most deforested landscapes in Europe. We should be playing our part in addressing this deplorable situation. Support the inclusion of a local tree policy that prioritizes the retention of existing trees, woodlands, and hedgerows, recognizing their invaluable ecological, environmental, and community benefits that take decades to fully develop. In supporting sustainable growth, all development proposals should be required to incorporate new tree planting to enhance sites, contributing to the green infrastructure.
