The local plan needs to make provisions for 30,000 additional new dwellings, however strategic locations which are not within green belt land have the capacity for 48,500 dwellings. There is no need to develop on top of new green belt land to meet housing needs when other areas are readily available.

The green belt land forms an important function in the local ecosystem and is high quality productive farmland crucial for national food security.
