This land contributes to the Local Plan's emphasis on diversity and sustainability; it is important agricultural land and is a site of biodiversity. It is highly valued by local residents for wellbeing, and it contributes to containing urban sprawl, retaining historic towns and villages, and protects the historic village of Milverton. Building here would lead to greater car use to access employment to the south of the town, and permanently remove agricultural land from our environment. Once done, this cannot be undone, and the negative impacts significantly outweigh the benefits, especially in the light of biodiversity disruption from HS2.
