Wrong location has been identified,
The proposed new road would destroy Old Milverton.
Damage to the surrounding habitat is unacceptable
The proposals would lead to congestion.
The implications to traffic in this are have not been considered and there is a lack of provision for pedestrians and cyclists.
1. Building of houses along Old Milverton Lane seems to me in the wrong place.
2. The proposed new road from the A452 to the A46 through Old Milverton must be scrapped. This will mean the destruction of this village, no more no less and is unacceptable. I can easily see a campaign of civil disobedience if this part of the plan goes through. Apart from this, the destruction of ancient hedgerows along the lane, loss of habitat etc, there will be unacceptable levels of traffic resulting down Old Milverton Lane through, what used to be a quiet residential street until the roundabout at Blackdown was built. All this roundabout did, of course, was to make life easier for drivers to turn Old Milverton Lane into a rat run with a traffic jam at the junction with Rugby Road.
The agenda of making life better for drivers MUST stop. I cycle commute to Coventry every day along Old Milverton Lane and this proposal will exacerbate the careless and thoughtless driving that will entail. Life for residents along the Lane and just off it at the Leamington end will become miserable; journeys to school fraught with danger. None of this is really considered in the plan: it is simply couched in terms of how to make the plan happen and the 'best' way of enabling traffic to serve the plan. This ideology MUST end.
3. As per usual, the apparent lack of provision for cyclists and pedestrians is an issue. There seems little point in arguing this, given the bias against cycling in our society. Any cycling plans MUST involve consultation with and positive bias to cyclists. There's little point in painting white lines on roads with poorly planned breaks to allow cars to carry on their way. The highways department need to have real understanding of this. How many of them cycle to work? I simply ask councillors search YouTube for 'Holland Cycling' to see how a country with the lowest rate of heart disease and highest cycling participation rate does it.
