Gypsy and Traveller Site Options response to Site GT02
I AM OBJECTING TO THE PROPOSED SITE GT02 ON THE FOLLOWING GROUNDS:
1. ROAD NETWORKS, POOR TRANSPORT AND HIGH DANGER ROUTE---the B425 and the A425 are extremely busy roads and have been the scene of many serious accidents in recent years. With local large businesses such as Jaguar land Rover at Gaydon the roads around the proposed sites are exceptionally busy at peak morning and afternoon times when children from the sites would be being taken to and from schools. Cycling is also very dangerous as both the B425 and the A425 are narrow which means very limited space for cyclists. Bus stops around the area (what there are) are also situated in dangerous places. Walking to local schools (no pavements for walkers) would be impossible without a risk to the road walker.
2. GP SURGERY, SCHOOL & PUBLIC TRAMSPORT.—the local GP is around 4 miles away from the propose site and is very much over subscribed at the present time. There is no bus service to/from this surgery. The local NHS Hospital at Warwick is over 6 miles away from the proposed site. The local primary school would mean necessary transport which would prove a problem—see 1)
3. LOCAL BUSINESS---the proposed site would mean the loss of a new and successful exhibition centre. This is at present generating an income of £2m as well as providing jobs and business for shops; pubs etc. 40 + people are employed from the local community when exhibitions are taking place. 12 exhibitions have taken place in 2013 + another 14 booked for the remainder of the year. Already 19 are booked for 2014. Plans and predictions for the future of this centre are considerable--£4m by 2017.As a local business person myself I feel VERY strongly that this business should NOT be allowed to be lost to the local---and Warwickshire community.
4. LOCAL LANDSCAPE---the sites are situated in a valley so screening without harming the character of the area would be impossible. This would mean that id would be visible from all aspects due to the lay of the land.
5. SCHOOLS---the nearest primary school is 1.5 miles away and is nearing capacity—considerable transport problems—see 1). Secondary schools -Southam and Leamington are both 4 miles away.
6. UTILITIES---no drains, gas or rural electricity supplies. Broadband is lower than national standard.
7. HISTORIC ---this being an ancient Roman road . Warwick District Council names it on their archaeological register. In medieval times the site was an historic Toll Site and ancient pottery has been found in surrounding land.
CONCLUSION
The development of GT02 has a Gypsy and Traveller site will have significant impact in terms of
Loss of employment
Loss of contribution to local economy and support of surrounding businesses.
There is considerable lack of access to local amenities.
It has poor public transport and is a High Danger route.
The environment has historic value and with visual impact due to the lay of the land.
