Building on floodplains presents significant risks. Floods can endanger lives, damage properties, and require costly flood defenses. Climate change is increasing flood risks, and developing flood-prone areas only exacerbates these issues.
SG11 floodplains already struggle with drainage and water management. Without comprehensive flood defense systems, the housing estate will be at high-risk of regular flooding, endangering residents and putting local emergency services under strain. The local infrastructure – roads, schools, healthcare facilities – is likely not equipped to handle the demands of a large housing estate. The local area will face traffic congestion, overcrowded-schools, and a strain on healthcare services.
