There are a number of other reasons why I object to this proposed development:
1. The impact and strain on the countryside and communities affected with inevitable increased traffic (as public transport in these areas is limited), air, noise and emissions pollution, flooding, pressure on public amenities, health and education services and policing.
2. Thousands more vehicles clogging village roads and even more traffic gridlocking Stratford-upon-Avon, Henley-in-Arden, the A3400 and the A46.
3. Unnecessary development on Green Belt land will create urban sprawl and destroy wildlife corridors through the loss of protected trees, woodland, meadows and hedges.
4. Inevitable, disastrous risk of flooding from surface water run-off to nearby villages and Stratford-upon-Avon.
5. Increased air, noise and light pollution and the effect this has on mental health and wildlife.
6. Pressure on our infrastructure – our GP surgeries (where it is already incredibly difficult to get an appointment), hospitals, schools, colleges, employment, utilities, sewage system and water supply.
7. There are a number of Brown Field sites in and around Stratford-upon-Avon (e.g. Timothy’s Bridge Road) which should be utilised for redevelopment before Green Belt land is even considered.
8. One of the purposes of Green Belt land is to preserve the character of historic towns and villages. Specifically commenting on Wilmcote and Mary Arden’s Farm (a historic landmark of global significance), the proposed urbanisation will bring devasting consequences to this heritage site and the surrounding area through:
a. Traffic vibrations from increased vehicles which will weaken the building’s foundations, leading to cracks and structural instability over time, threatening the farm’s preservation.
b. With more development, the village faces high flooding risks, which could further damage the property’s foundations. Increased flooding is already evident in the area from greater rainfall.
c. The rise in traffic is already causing problems, as evidenced by the railway bridge nearing restorative work due to land subsidence. This is a threat to Mary Arden’s farm too.
d. As the area turns into a housing estate and traffic jams, the once picturesque villages will no longer attract visitors damaging the local tourism economy.
e. With more cars on the road, the City Sightseeing Stratford-upon-Avon Bus’s route will also be disrupted, making it harder for tourists and locals to access the area.
