The stresses placed on local services and roads extend to beyond the immediate vicinity of the place being developed. This includes road junctions, footpaths and pavements, stations. The requirement to improve and enhance infrastructure should be considered holistically along the entire length of commutes or journeys to be made. Building in the countryside will result in long journeys to access leisure, work, and health facilities. Emergency services access times are longer. Development needs to consider all aspects of life - not just the 100 metres or so surrounding the place with short cycle paths and a couple of streetlights.
