The proposal defeats the object of New Settlements. New residents would have to travel through the town to access employment and services. The road infrastructure would not be able to cope (particularly the Clopton Bridge) causing even more congestion in the historic town centre and south of the river. If a new river crossing were to be built between Tiddington and Alveston, it would be intrusive, require a large and expensive structure across the flood plain (a bypass and river crossing to the west of Stratford would be less intrusive and link directly to the A46 and strategic road network).
