Shipston (SG17) should not be designated as a strategic growth area: the town suffers from limited infrastructure, lacking a railway station and adequate bus services. Employment opportunities are scarce, and Fell Mill Lane (Ref 148 & 747) lies on a Grade 2 & 3 floodplain. Furthermore, essential services such as education, healthcare, and green spaces are already under strain. Additional development would worsen traffic congestion on narrow roads, heighten flood risks, and diminish the town’s rural character. Expanding development in this area would compromise the local environment, heritage, and quality of life, making Shipston unsuitable for sustainable growth
