Ymatebydd: Bishops Tachbrook Parish Council

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

Tourism
The Parish Council don‟t believe that the Council has identified all the reasonable alternatives. With tourism being such an important part of the local economy and yet with significant untapped potential, The Parish Council is very concerned that the limit of the recommendations within the core strategy document is the proposal to protect tourist accommodation. To support tourism it is essential to keep and enhance the Warwickshire countryside. Although the historic parts are important, the rolling landscape is totally attractive including the way that it rolls up to the sharp change at urban boundaries. To allow Leamington to sprawl southwards and spoil views from Warwick Castle Towers will not enhance the visitor experience.
With respect to the Preferred Option, the Parish Council is disappointed that this is the only strategy being proposed.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

One of our town's great assets is Kenilworth Castle. Links between this and the town centre need to be improved and greater cohesive effort by organisations such as Shakespeare Country can help optimise this as a way to generate more business for the town.

There has to be more than accommodation to make people return and recommend visiting.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

Object to inclusion of cultural facilities within this topic as it excludes cultural facilities from other strategic areas of Core Strategy. Cultural facilities include libraries, art galleries, cinemas and theatres which are utilised by residents.

Policy to promote tourist facilities and growth of tourist industry can support inclusion of theatre use and a concentration of cultural facilities and activities can act as magnet for visitors and provide a significant boost to local economy. However, cultural facilities should not be confined to one topic but should be included in matters concerning community facilities.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

We strongly support the conclusions in paragraph 7.3 on the fact that the District economy may be missing out on additional income from tourism due to the low levels of overnight stays associated with the major attractions.

We agree with the approach in paragraph 7.8 that increasing the number of visitors to Warwick District that stay overnight will strengthen the local tourist economy. We disagree, however, with the discussion in paragraph 7.9, which states that national and regional policy only supports new visitor accommodation within town centres or as the reuse of rural buildings.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

In relation to the tourism strategic objective, tourism should also be supported as part of the development of the rural economy. This is highlighted as part of the rural communities strategic objective but for clarity it should also be cross referenced as part of the main tourism preferred option.
Agree that the focus should be on increasing overnight stays and not necessarily on increasing the volume of visitors. The option to protect existing accommodation will therefore help to achieve this objective.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

Why are recommendations within core strategy limited to proposal to protect tourist accommodation.
Supporting tourism essential to keep and enhance Warwickshire countryside. Although historic parts important, rolling landscape is attractive. Allowing Leamington to sprawl southwards and spoil views fromWarwick Castle and destroy attractive watercourses and their valley will not enhance visitor experience.
Other visitor experiences needed so more to see than Castle and quaint towns. Why not something 21st century?
Canal passes through Leamington & Warwick, yet is hardly exploited. Get rid of backs of deteriorating factories and open up recreational spaces/eating places to attract locals and visitors.

Natural England suggests that Green Tourism is included as an important reference with an associated policy. The provision of Green Infrastructure can provide opportunities for green tourism, recreation and leisure giving benefits for health and well-being.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

Greater emphasis should be placed on the retention, enhancement and expansion of existing tourist attractions, subject to the need to balance the requirement to protect and enhance the historic environment. The Core Strategy should contain a policy that relates specifically to existing tourist attractions.
