I don't think the council with have to do anything here, but the approach seems correct.

NB: Whitnash has ancient sites and buildings - is the Whitnash environment being considered or is this a secondary consideration after Leamington and Warwick?

What about the Saxon, Stuart sites and buildings in Whitnash. Are they protected like the Leamington and Warwick ones?

The Conservation areas need to be reviewed and enlarged.
Perhaps far more parkland should be included such as St Mary Lands in Warwick which date back over 750 years and are under threat from a leaseholder- Racecourse Investments Ltd -wishing to build a large budget hotel which will impact on the landscape and is largely irrelevant to the running of a successful racecourse. Views that have existed for hundreds and in one case over 1 thousand years would be lost, for short term commercial gain.
This is an example of piecemeal damage to our historic environment.

16b We at BLAST fully support any plans to protect and maintain historic gardens both as an historic record but also as a living example for gardeners of all ages eg Warwick's Lord Leycester Hospital Victorian garden

Supported in general terms however, specific mention of historic open spaces should also be included. As an example, St. Mary's Lands, (also referred to as Warwick Common), is part of the local heritage but could be open to 'commercial' exploitation if not 'protected'. Extending, (or creating), a 'Conervation Area' here would ensure more detailed consideration would be required before any exploitation took place.

Historic canals not are included within Conservation Areas in Warwick District. This key industrial heritage is an integral part of the landscape within the countryside surrounding villages and towns. Kingswood Junction/Lapworth locks and the Hatton Lock flight are renown features of the canal system.
WDC should consider the possibility of conservation area designation for the South Stratford and Grand Union Canals with other LPAs. The intrinsic value of the canal and its historic buildings are irreplaceable assets. Careful conservation management of the canals will ensure the preservation of historic buildings, structures and textures and control development along the corridor.
