The protection of our historic heritage is imprtant to give the people of Warwick District a 'sense of history' and the inclusion of 'open spaces' of historic interest is just as important as historic 'buildings'. The extension of 'Conservation Areas' to cover all historical 'open spaces' should be considered. Particularly those owned by WDC as the freeholder.

Historic canals not are included within Conservation Areas in Warwick District. This key industrial heritage is an integral part of the landscape within the countryside surrounding villages and towns. Kingswood Junction/Lapworth locks and the Hatton Lock flight are renown features of the canal system.
WDC should consider the possibility of conservation area designation for the South Stratford and Grand Union Canals with other LPAs. The intrinsic value of the canal and its historic buildings are irreplaceable assets. Careful conservation management of the canals will ensure the preservation of historic buildings, structures and textures and control development along the corridor.

This is the bedrock of Leamington's appeal and tourist appeal. The Planning Dept. should be far more pro-active where large developments especially Council ones are planned - never again should a Brandon House be permitted.

If we want tourists to come to this area, we must protect its beauty and its important historical attractions.

Acknowledged constraints: scheduled ancient monument, regionally important geological site, flood risk zones, undulating land, noise from A46 and railway line, impact on area of medium and high landscape value.

No. The Council should have tried much harder to save many historical fields in the past.

In the Kenilworth strategy there are ancient woodlands in a conservation area. It is strange that on asking their views on this strategy that they had not been consulted and were unaware of this potential threat to the Glasshouse Spinney and Rocky Lane.

We are pleased to see the reference (paragraphs 16.2 & 16.3) to Parklands and Ancient Woodland, although the latter is also a crucial habitat for section 17 - Natural Environment. However we would also like to see ancient/veteran/notable trees considered within this section and protected as green monuments.
