Housing and mixed-use schemes naturally contribute to improved community welfare by delivering high-quality homes, green spaces, and social infrastructure. Existing environmental health regulations, national space standards, and policies on sustainability and renewable energy already provide safeguards for health considerations within the planning process. The policy could better recognise the inherent health benefits of well-designed housing schemes, which provide safe, sustainable, and high-quality living environments.

Ymatebydd: Godwin Developments
Godwin Developments acknowledge the draft policy direction proposed regarding Health Impact Assessments. As noted previously, it is suggested that the requirements for a Health Impact Assessment could be incorporated into a Design and Access Statement. It is important that we seek to streamline the amount of information that is being presented in planning applications. This would be beneficial for both the planning officer and the general public who are reviewing these documents.

The SG06 development would have a very negative affect on the health and wellbeing of local residents as removes a free space for walking, cycling, running and swimming in the local area. It would also damage mental wellbeing as removes a space of natural beauty and nature, as well of quiet reflection from the Old Milverton grave yard.

I live in the middle of X1 and already the plans are having a direct impact on residents. I found out about the developments in the press and with no consideration, I'm being asked to comment without having full details to provide meaningful feedback. No timeline, compensation of property etc. Residents of Hareway Lane chose to live outside of developed areas and if plans go ahead, we will have to move to maintain current styles of living. While I find it difficult not knowing what the future holds, my neighbours are in their 80's and they shouldn't have this stress.

The policy lacks clear criteria for when a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) is required, potentially leading to inconsistent screening, unnecessary burdens on developers, or insufficient scrutiny of impactful developments. Without defined thresholds or triggers, the HIA screening process could delay applications, increase uncertainty, strain LPA resources, and risk ineffective implementation, making the policy less effective in delivering meaningful health benefits.

Financial contributions applied under health policies should be proportionate so as not to duplicate existing developer obligations to the NHS or local ICB’s.
