From 1998-2019 I commuted with a fold up bike from Farringdon or West Hampstead to offices around London. My journey's were better provided for in terms of cycle lanes than anything I've experienced in Stratford upon Avon where there are no cycle routes worthy of the name. Safer to travel from Great Dover Street in Borough to Marylebone than try to traverse West - East across Stratford upon Avon. On road routes are too narrow for a cyclist to cycle correctly unless on the dotted line on Banbury Road. Birmingham and Alcester Road routes incomplete and faded to nothing.

As a rural area the needs of pedestrians and cyclists are overlooked. Southam is surrounded by busy A roads and a ring road which you have to take your life in your hands to cross. There is no pedestrian or cycleway from Stockton to Southam. All of these plans focus on active transport within towns yet little thought is given to intra village transport.

It has been proven that smart city inhabitants and users reap benefits eg Edinburgh and therefore there should be an objective of moving towards smart city infrastructure

With the proviso that, as per my comment on the introductory paragraphs, the proposals refer to the 'climate crisis' and/or 'climate emergency' rather than 'climate change' and give priority to climate impact mitigation measures.

This section needs a lot more work, along the lines of that which has gone into Chapter 7. It's currently inconsistent with the council's net zero strategy, which must take priority. It should not be countenancing building new roads. It should instead be supporting public transport, including rail as required, cycle networks, and multimodal hubs, along with pedestrianisation.

Alcester Town Council, Arrow with Weethley Parish Council, Kinwarton Parish Council, Wixford Parish Council and Great Alne Parish Council (together referred to as Alcester Parishes Group or ‘APG’) broadly supports the proposals in this Chapter. Investment in public transport is essential particularly in bus services connecting our communities with each other and nearby towns and cities.
Digital connectivity must be prioritized for all communities to support business and remote working.
Parking and traffic management strategies are required to improve congestion in town centres.

I am in agreement with Policy Directions 31 - 35. There is a specific report that applies to Shipston which could inform either the SWLP or any subsequent updating of the Shipston on Stour Neighbourhood Development Plan. This would apply without any additional development identified in SG17.

I do believe we should strongly resist the continued desire to build ever more roads. Road building should be the last option and only if no other more sustainable transport is possible.

It worries me that the though the approach to sustainable travel is good, the Road Lobby has been so powerful and sucessful for decades that it still seems a foregone conclusion that large amounts of money should be directed, without enough thought, into building new roads, with all the attendant destruction of the environment and incresed air pollution.
