Fresh Food security must be a priority for South Warwickshire.

Given the likely focus of future development in the North of Kenilworth South of Coventry (NoKSoC) area and importance of transport infrastructure in the North-South Corridor on supporting the SWLP as a whole, we have identified the need for a new railway station and multi-modal transport interchange to serve the University of Warwick and its hinterland. This facility will require land to be safeguarded through the Local Plan to ensure the opportunity is not compromised by other local growth in the area, given that it may take a number of years for the facility to fully develop. A staged approach is envisaged which would see the site initially used for bus-based park and ride, then served by Very Light Rail and finally heavy rail.

The detailed rationale and technical evidence for the multi-modal transport interchange is set out in Appendix A. This includes a plan indicating the land which the County Council would like to see safeguarded in the SWLP – currently shown as an ‘Area of Search’ given the relatively early stage of development of the scheme.
