Mitigating against and adapting our environments to the effects of climate change and protecting against environmental degradation is one of the biggest public health challenges of the 21st century. Local actions can have global health consequences. It is important that local development is responsible and ensures sustainable development. It is possible to foster growth which considers not just long term economic gain, but also long term social and environmental gain.

Supports the desire to deliver community safety services and reduce crime and antisocial behaviour by the appropriate design and location of new development. PH/SWCCG would request however that any large planning application/decision is made following consultation with the health service, particularly in relation to maximising linkages and access to the wider countryside for health/recreational purposes e.g. cycle routes, measured miles etc.
PH/SWCCG would encourage WDC to consider the installation of green/outdoor gym equipment in existing and any new open spaces to enable increased access to equipment that will increase levels of physical activity.
Aligns with public health indicator 'improving the wider determinants of health' and 'health improvement' and NICE guidance 'four commonly used methods to increase physical activity (PH2)' 'Prevention of cardiovascular disease (PH25)' 'Physical activity and the environment (PH8)' 'Mental wellbeing and older people (PH16)' and 'Preventing type 2 diabetes - population and community interventions (PH35)' and 'Promoting physical activity for children and young people (PH17)'.
