You need to make sure that there are adequate medical (GP, clinic, hospital and mental health) and dental facilities for each new development. For example, children's mental health services already having waiting times of 2yrs plus just for assessment let alone treatment. Orthodontic dental services for children are appalling - it's currently a 2-3yr wait for a brace.

A thorough HIA will demonstrate the area is completely unsuitable for development as the infrastructure needed to make it connected and viable is uneconomic. British planning is littered with such estates leading to antisocial behaviour, crime and deprivation.

High concentrations of urban and rural new developments have huge impact on existing residents including their mental and general health. Bus links for many Warwickshire rural communities are inadequate and infrequent with limited destination options with the result that reliance upon cars is unavoidable for a lot of people. The emphasis on walking and cycling should be balanced fully with the need for the many who do have to travel longer distances and for the elderly and infirm who still need to reach services, amenities or health centres located in the towns and need also to be able to park.

The proposal to increase the size of Wilmcote by 800% can only cause damage to residents’ health and wellbeing. Noise, dust, dirt, cars are all key drivers of physical and mental harm. Developing a new town in (what was) a relatively rural location would be an attractive prospect for county lines gangs; in new towns strangers and criminals are easier to blend in. The existing health economy is already under significant strain; both Trusts are performing relatively well at present this is unsustainable without further significant investment. As a senior NHS manager of 35+ years, this investment won’t be forthcoming.

Canals offer an opportunity for supporting and promoting healthier lifestyles and helping to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of local communities by encouraging people to be more active, whether through leisure and recreation (including activities such as canoeing as well as walking or cycling along towpaths) or offering an active travelling option that is a sustainable alternative to using private motor cars to access services and facilities. South Warwickshire public health has not got any teeth therefore we cannot sustain for future population in regard to an acute hospital that is currently creaking at its doors. The formation of the SWLP policies should continue to be based on a collaborative approach to mitigating environmental and health impacts. More clarity is required on what will be detrimental to health and wellbeing.

Introduction of a Screening Report could help in determining what is detrimental, however the blanket policy for all major developments is not justified. Instead, the policy should isolate impacts and only require screening and assessment where a proposal would clearly be detrimental.
