Do you agree with the approach laid out in Draft Policy C- Protecting Community Facilities?
Representation ID: 104932
Received: 07/03/2025
Respondent: Stratford-on-Avon Town Council
The policy should cover not only protecting existing community facilities but also providing all of them (local shops, meeting places/village halls, medical facilities, sports venues, open space, cultural buildings, pubs and places of worship) as necessary infrastructure for New Settlements BEFORE house building commences. They cannot be left as an afterthought.

Do you agree with the approach laid out in Draft Policy Direction-20- Supporting our changing town centres?
Representation ID: 104949
Received: 07/03/2025
Respondent: Stratford-on-Avon Town Council
Stratford has been wanting for at least 20 years to close High Street and Bridge Street to vehicles during shopping hours, enabling a 'cafe culture' to develop and encouraging pedestrians to appreciate the historic buildings. Several experiments have been very successful, and it was clearly defined as a project in the 2018 Neighbourhood Plan, yet the County Council has never implemented the scheme.
Consider including the whole of Henley Street in the Primary Shopping Area, particularly as the new Gateway Project emerges.

Many of our institutions in Stratford, especially the Shakespeare properties, theatre and church, were hit very hard by the covid pandemic and associated lockdowns. Focused support for the regional tourist authority would help to restore some of the former level of activity.

Every new home should be mandated at planning stage to include either a heat pump or solar panels. All existing homes should be incentivised to retrofit a heat pump or solar panels. If the climate emergency is real then these requirements must be of the highest priority!

Preserving the historic centre of Stratford is our highest priority. In particular this means repurposing buildings of historical importance or architectural merit, even if they are not listed. Also it means reducing traffic volumes and air pollution in the town centre and pollution in the river.
