Trust broadly agrees that preferred spatial option for the district is also the most sustainable.
Focusing growth around existing urban areas reduces the need for significant development of infrastructure and provides basis to promote more localized employment opportunities and sustainable methods of transportation. However, whether preferred option will deliver sustainable growth from environmental perspective will largely depend on appropriate selection of potential sites and recognition and incorporation of key natural environmental assets within design of development. Use of Warwick District Habitat Assessment as tool to inform subsequent opportunities and constraints of each development option is therefore necessity for appropriate site selection.

Trust strongly recommends that all policies relating to specific growth sites, detail need to preserve these features through their appropriate incorporation into development proposals, the provision adequate buffers, securing management and protection for LBAP habitats and species and contributing to the delivery of green infrastructure.
Once again, the provision of a green infrastructure study will help inform this approach.

Open green spaces can contribute to an integrated green infrastructure network throughout the district. The Trust believes should these open green spaces be included within a green infrastructure network, policies focusing green infrastructure contributions from the CIL will assist in achieving this strategic objective, by providing a framework for investment to complement areas of current
open space deficit and degradation.

Landscape conservation projects could help
provide a delivery mechanism for the Biodiversity Enhancement areas as outlined by the West Midlands Biodiversity Partnership. Policies that encouraged the delivery of landscape scale conservation projects would therefore be strongly supported by the Trust

Trust highlights importance of the natural environment in creating a high quality built environment. Integration of the natural environment in new developments promotes better social health and welfare, provides vital ecosystem services like better air quality, flood alleviation, temperature regulation and increases in property values. The Trust recommends that
policies providing guidelines on new developments should therefore aim to ensure new developments meet the highest requirements in terms of energy efficiency, design and green space provision.

Welcomes strategic policy to promote the use of sustainable flood alleviation. Primarily, Trust believes that a green infrastructure study will be a useful tool, with reference to the EA flood
risk maps, to identify and designate areas that can be naturally flooded to act as large scale flood attenuation areas and also optimal biodiversity habitat. Can in turn, contribute to the enhancement of both the biodiversity value and function of the watercourse and surrounding habitats. In addition, the Trust would welcome policies that detail the potential biodiversity value of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS).
