The overall intention is to maintain the South of Southam as the main industrial and larger employment area with the central environment focused on services and retail with a tendency to smaller businesses and community. Whilst we agree with the inclusion of Southam, we do not agree with all the sites in the group. Please see comments on HELAA results for comments on individual sites within SG12.

Southam has grown so much that it cannot cope with current infrastructure required to make it a sustainable town, adding to this simply adds to the problem.

Little consideration given to the role Southam plays within the cluster of nearby village settlements. If Southam expands significantly, there will be enormous pressure on the only two GP surgeries which serve Southam and many other villages; pressure on school places for Southam College is a factor. Public transport is poor. Real danger of over-whelming the facilities of local villages by expansion of Southam. Long Itchington is close to Southam; residents use our facilities - walking, play parks, community centre, clubs, pubs etc These are already often at capacity. This needs to be given very careful consideration.

Leamington has already exploded in the past five years. The roads are jammed, the services are overstretched and the vast housing developements and population explosion is changimg the character of the area and making it unpleasant. Infrastructure cannot cope with all the new 29,000 homes being concentrated in a few massive developments in the area particularly south Leamington and Whitnash which is gridlocked. These houses need to be fully dispersed across the whole of warwickshire with every town and village taking a handful of them. This woudl be a fairer, more sustainable appproach as the infratrusture wil alsways play catch-up.

Southam does not currently have the infrastructure such as school places, doctor and dental surgery places to support further growth. The land adjacent to the Banbury road is prone to flooding as witnessed by HS2 archaeological digs done over the last few years becoming ponds during winter and the HS2 line will have an impact on the ground water levels.
Green travel options from Southam (and surrounding area) are severely limited.

Southam is a largely self-contained small town and, as such, can accomode reasonable expansion, provided local amenities are expanded to provide for more people.

Further growth of SG12 only if facilities to match current growth in this area are provided first and there is a financed plan to have these in place as new growth happens. There has been major expansion of Southam, Harbury, Bishops Itchington, Long Itchington and other villages nearby without facilities to support these coming on line.
Also road surface is appalling around Southam, the quality & on-going maintenance of roads must match total usage by developers, residents, workers, suppliers etc.

Southam has already had a large amount of new housing in recent years. Inadequate infrastructure to support more, schools and transport in particular; roads are already congested and busy with HS2 who will be working here for some time to come, school buses park in laybys around the town preventing use by other road users,

I would urge you to assess the effect this may have on surrounding villages which use the GP surgeries in Southam and many other facilities. Increases in housing in Southam cannot cause deficits of infrastructure for residents in surrounding villages, like Long Itchington etc.

The overall intention is to maintain the South of Southam as the main industrial and larger employment area with the central environment focused on services and retail with a tendency to smaller businesses and community. Southam has absorbed a larger number of houses already and the town has grown without the appropriate increase in services or infrastructure, so although I broadly agree with some of the sites in Southam being put forward, I do not agree with all of the sites in group SG12. I will comment on them individually in the HELAA results section.

Has already experienced disproportionate growth without corresponding improvements in infrastructure. No rail and no arterial road network. A cycle network to connect it with other local villages within a 4mile radius would be beneficial to Southam's viability.

Support expansion of Southam. Meets sustainability criteria due to amenities already being in place, schools, gps and other local facilities. Non green belt land development.
