The provision of open space is very important to many settlements where there is historically a shortfall in what should be provided.
The words of Draft Policy Direction 43c are commendable but ignore the fact that in Shipston on Stour, land for potential Open Spaces is all in private ownership. Landowners and their agents seek the best return on their assets, which means maximizing house building. The result is a town, of 6000+ having no public park. Plenty about protecting Open Spaces but nothing to suggest how they might be established.

More recreational and outdoor space is appealing and should be beneficial if new areas meet promised quality and upkeep.
The Rowley Road part of the new SEGRO community park is substandard in terms of suitable parking & walking surfaces and accessibility. Newly planted vegetation struggles to survive and many of the large standards have died. Favoured mainly by dog walkers, and nighttime gatherings, public access to once agricultural land has brought increased littering and antisocial behaviour. Planning strategy indications of local resident involvement in ‘how the park is developed and used’ fragmentedly evolved after agreed designs and commencement of works.
