Do you agree with the approach laid out in Draft Policy Direction 6- Safeguarding land for transport proposals?

The majority of opinion in Stratford favours closing Clopton Bridge to all traffic over 5 tons and building a southern bypass road to ease the pressure of through-traffic and HGVs in the town centre. This NEW road should link to the A46 at the Wildmoor and Fulbrooke roundabouts, cross the Avon via two new bridges, and connect with all the main arterial roads, about three miles from the town centre. The ridiculous plan for the South-West Relief Road (SWRR) should be scrapped.

The Greenbelt is vital to maintaining the character of the land around Stratford, and indeed in Warwickshire generally, and must be preserved at all costs.

Do you agree with the approach laid out in Draft Policy Direction-8- Density?

Densification for its own sake should be avoided. There is a lot to be said in favour of green spaces within towns and urban environments and they should be preserved wherever possible. An alternative to be encouraged is increasing the occupancy of existing buildings, for example by converting unused floors above shops and commercial buildings into residential use.

Industrial buildings with heritage value should be retained and redeveloped, wherever possible. This is a particular cause of concern in the Black Country.

During the life of this plan, vehicles will move to zero carbon, therefore eliminating one of the concerns of private car usage. In addition, autonomous vehicles, vehicle sharing and other potential technology changes will affect developments and trends should be taken into account in density, and sustainability assessments.
All new settlements should be mandated to include networks of cycle routes, separated from the roads, to encourage active travel.

Builders should be prevented from building large houses on small blocks of land. There are great benefits in having space for a decent garden and being not too close to the neighbours.

Do you agree with the approach laid out in Draft Policy Direction- 12-Locations for Employment Growth?

There is potential for a development around Gaydon to become a fully fledged Strategic Site. Its location on the M40, and potential for a New Settlement which could link it to a new station on the Chiltern Rail Line, would provide enviable travel connectivity to Birmingham Airport, Leamington, Birmingham, and London, making use of released train pathways once HS2 is open from 2033. Research centres and expansion of Warwick University could increase the employment offering, and a strong employment base would provide a New Settlement with a clear purpose.

Do you agree with the approach laid out in Draft Policy Direction-16-Airfields?
ID sylw: 104860

Ymatebydd: Stratford-on-Avon Town Council
Potential transport technology changes could mean that airfield space is at a premium towards the end of the life of the plan. It is therefore suggested that land at Wellesbourne Airfield should be protected from over development which would reduce the current land that is set aside for airfield use.

There should be some mention of active travel for both work and leisure activities. In particular the region would benefit from more cycle ways at both local (with towns) and medium (between towns) scales.

The policy should also note the importance of effective digital communication networks as infrastructure for people wanting to work remotely from a rural location.
