This is a very important section and should form a part of any discussion or planning application. This requires outline planning applications to be more detailed than currently, where no design is given, the planting etc is not detailed. Outline planning applications should include detail on how a new development fits with other policies e.g. for 20-minute neighbourhood

There is are not enough facilities now for sport, leisure and recreation, planners never provide enough, a small play park does not help. There needs to be Astro turfs, swimming pools, sports centres, gyms, community halls with numerous rooms to cater for different ages, indoor provision is particularly important due to the winter weather and heavy rain at other times of the year.

The 20 minute neighbourhood is not a realistic ambition in remote locations. Remote locations do not have accessible supermarkets, accessible hospitals, accessible libraries, accessible secondary schools and further education colleges. Development in remote locations in the spirit of the 20 minute neighbourhood will only serve to increase private car use on rural roads that cannot safely cope with increased traffic.

House builders must design new homes to blend in with the local rural architectural styles. Not provide "cookie cutter" designs that are identical to those found across the country.

Apart from a few small developments (eg Spitfire homes), ALL new large scale housing developments in Warwickshire absolutely do not fall in line with "A Well-Designed and Beautiful South Warwickshire". They are hideous, anonymous, anodyne sprawling boxes.

Building on green belt will reduce the beauty around the Hatton Area.
People will be less likely to go for walks, which will have a negative impact on health

Broadly yes but
the concept of the 20 minute neighbourhood has been described by some, including Officers associated with this Consultation, as access to necessary services by walking or cycling within 10 minutes. There is clearly a difference in timings for these very different modes of travel. Please specify without any ability for misinterpretation what this means. The DPD clearly says walking

Complete pie in the sky aspirations. Having decimated the landscape with housing and solar panels you are going to create attractive spaces and enhancing local character. That is what we have now. Your proposals will ensure that this will be the opposite of enhancing.

We support the design principles identified in draft policy Direction 25. However, it is noted that this is a “policy direction” that will be refined into a full draft policy in the pre-submission SWLP. It is, therefore, uncertain what the practical implications of the design principles will be at the present time. It is, therefore, consequently difficult to comment further on the suitability or otherwise of a strategic design policy given the lack of detail and we reserve the right to comment on this in the future at a later stage.

While the policy’s reference to the 20-minute neighbourhood concept aligns with the NPPF’s sustainable travel aims, the NPPF does not mention this approach, and its application within South Warwickshire needs further consideration. The SWLP technical evidence “Guide to existing housing densities in South Warwickshire” defines a 20-minute neighbourhood as achieving access to everyday services within a 10-minute walk or cycle each way. Greater flexibility should be applied to acknowledge the challenges of implementing the 20-minute neighbourhoods’ model in areas where everyday services are not available within such a short distance.

Yes. The "sufficient" land provision for play, sport and recreation needs to be expanded to include assessing existing development/communities where there is already a shortfall in these facilities with a view to addressing that shortfall.

Answer no as I cannot reconcile how following these design principles, along with environment, nature and flooding focus items means settlements C1 and B1 are a consideration - development of such scale works against these

Agree with many of the principles but this is more about planning detail for each site after the adoption of a site into the plan. Not a developer led blanket justification for adoption of any specific Strategic Growth area into SWLP.

Further to Policy Direction 25, Where previous piecemeal, ad-hoc or opportunist housing development has failed to meet the targets identified in PD25, the policy should allow retrospective action to rebalance the previous developments with more appropriate development of physical and social infrastructure, as well as making sure there is sufficient land provision for GBI, open green space and sports and leisure facilities. In this way, the policy will help support and provide for existing community needs.

The thrust of this policy is supported, including the concept of 20 minute neighbourhoods which will achieve sustainable developments, providing residents with a genuine alternative to the private car to reach everyday services and facilities including shops, schools, employment and social opportunities.
In making this comment is it noted that Strategic Growth Area SG5 is particularly well located and capable of achieving sustainable development. It can be brought forward quickly and easily to meet housing needs in the early part of the Plan period, in compliance with the 20 minute neighbourhood concept.
