Whilst the aim is for people to live close to where they work and for Active Travel to be a priority, it must be acknowledged that people often choose to reside and work in different places. Commuting is the norm and the SWLP must accommodate this. Settlement expansion and locations of new settlements must be supported by transport infrastructure. Transport links around Wellesbourne need upgrading to accommodate further development.

SG15 North of Wellesbourne: Wellesbourne has already expanded beyond its natural boundaries. What was a village has already grown beyond its natural extent. It is car-dependent with some but not much public transport. SG15 includes very large areas of countryside north of Wellesbourne on both sides of the A429. This would take much BMV agricultural land, against planning policy. It would generate large traffic flows on what is already a busy road, with consequences of delays and reduced road safety. SG15 should not be proceeded with. Small infill sites within Wellesbourne can deliver social housing to meet local need.

SG15- North of Wellesbourne Site My main concern is the additional traffic on the A429 between the Longbridge roundabout and Wellesbourne. The junctions from Wasperton, Barford and Sherbourne villages to this road are extremely dangerous especially at peak times and the traffic generated by development at this site will only exacerbate this situation. Significant improvements/changes to these junctions must be made BEFORE the site is developed. This is required to satisfy Strategic Objective 3: "Providing infrastructure in the right place at the right time".

If the construction of new houses is to proceed, it is more appropriate to construct on non-Green Belt land.

Although SG15 and SG16 are not considered as a new settlement, the potential combined size means that they may function in a similar way. With no fast connectivity such as rail, and with buses providing the only viable public transport to Stratford-upon-Avon, the effects on traffic in the town and approach roads would be unacceptable.

Wellesbourne is another village that has been transformed into a huge dormitory for commuters in recent years. To further exacerbate the ruination of the character of the village by yet more housing for people who will have to commute to work by car is inconsistent with the SWLP's aspiration to make South Warwickshire more beautiful with improved biodiversity. Houses need to be built close to where people can work (in or very near the larger towns and conurbations), not encouraging people to commute long distance on already overcrowded and poorly maintained roads. The country towns and villages must be preserved.

The rural countryside surrounding the village will be ruined by this development.
The village has a strong community which is in danger of being lost with the proposed expansion.
Building will have a detrimental impact on the flood risk to the village.
There is not the infrastructure to support further expansion of the village. The only transport network are the roads which are already heavily congested and will not be able to support the extra traffic that will come with further development. Additionally this will impact on air pollution.
Local farm land will be heavily impacted.

I disagree with this plan because it would destroy beautiful countryside ; so important to me , my family and so many people who live in this area. We have all invested our lives here and it would be desperately upsetting to witness this area becoming urbanised to this proposed extent .
Also we should think deeply about the generations who will follow because we would hope that they would also benefit in their body and mind by living in such a very special location.
Additionally , I believe that losing such important agricultural land would be a huge mistake.

This proposal will completely alter the rural nature of villages like Charlecote, Hampton Lucy and Wellesbourne. Shakespeare's green and leafy Warwickshire will be gone forever. The current use of much of the North Wellesbourne land for farming, soil, crop research and related education and training by the University of Warwick should be prioritised as a centre of excellence, vital for guiding national and local food security in the context of climate change. There should be no further change of use away from these essential agriculture and horticulture assets and capabilities instead of more housing, industry and associated transport.

This site would encroach on charlecote park and devalue a beautiful country park and be in close proximity to a listed building.
In addition the local roads (predominantly A429) are already I busy and dangerous pulling out of junctions such as charlecote - addition building and increased road vehicles would compound this situation.

Wellesbourne is situated in wildlife rich countryside. The existing road infrastructure would be unable to carry the additional traffic which would be increased due to necessity to travel for employment school etc

I live in Wasperton and already the A429 has very heavy traffic during rush hours, making it very difficult and often unsafe to turn in and out of the village (particularly towards Wellesbourne) during rush hours.
The A429 cannot cope with increased traffic and getting in and out of Wasperton would be impossible.
Furthermore, the impact on the local environment of Charlecote/ Wasperton with such a huge development so close by would be catastrophic. The loss of green space around Charlecote national trust would be detrimental to preserving the natural landscape and beauty of the area.

Its inclusion would have an adverse effect on Wellesbourne as a village. It would make Wellesbourne feel like a town. Wellesbourne has grown rapidly over the last few years. There are already stresses on the utilities (particularly water supply), school and healthcare facilities in the village. This proposal would have a materially adverse effect on the village without any corresponding benefit.

Stop building sprawling car-dependent suburbia. You are killing people with these decisions. Cars kill people, stop making people have to get in their cars to get to places. Build high density walkable neighbourhoods with active travel infrastructure.
Paint is not cycling infrastructure.
Buses are bad public transport.
Don't build any detached houses.

Unnecessary Expansion – The proposed developments (SG15 & SG16) would irreversibly damage Wellesbourne’s landscape, countryside, and greenbelt.
Farmland Loss – Further destruction of vital agricultural land threatens local food security and the economy.
Environmental Impact – Development encroaches on designated wildlife sites, harming native species and habitats.
Developer-Driven Plans – Prioritises profit over sustainability, infrastructure, and community needs.
Unbalanced Housing Distribution – Concentrating large developments strains resources; housing should be spread across smaller sites.
Wellesbourne Overdevelopment – The village has already far exceeded housing requirements, with little benefit to local families.

Destruction of Greenbelt & Farmland – SG15 and SG16 would permanently damage Wellesbourne’s landscape, agriculture, and food security.
Harm to Wildlife – Development threatens designated wildlife sites, displacing species and increasing roadkill.
Strain on Infrastructure – Roads, healthcare, schools, and services are already overstretched.
Traffic & Transport Issues – Increased congestion with no viable public transport solutions.
Unbalanced Housing Distribution – Concentrated large-scale developments benefit developers, not communities.
Overdevelopment – Wellesbourne has exceeded housing needs for 25 years, yet more is being imposed.
Unsustainable Growth – Urgent need for balanced, environmentally responsible alternatives.

As a concerned homeowner in Wellesbourne, I strongly object to the proposed South Warwickshire Local Plan. While I understand the need for development, the plan threatens the character of our village, increases flood risks, and lacks adequate transport connections. The reliance on cars would worsen traffic and pollution, while valuable farmland would be lost, harming local agriculture. With the anticipated population growth, existing schools and healthcare services, which are already strained, would struggle to cope. I urge the council to reconsider the plan to balance development with environmental preservation and community needs.

I believe the local plan's formation should focus on addressing Wellesbourne's infrastructure deficits before considering housing expansion. Recent developments have overwhelmed existing amenities, with no improvements to infrastructure. The lack of detail in proposed development areas makes it challenging to object effectively. Any new development must consider Wellesbourne's inadequate medical, educational, and transport facilities. The sewage system is already over capacity, and much of the land proposed for development is agricultural or floodplain. Wellesbourne needs a break from further development to enhance infrastructure instead of prioritising housing.

North Wellesbourne – SG15 – OBJECT: Significant harm to the character of the landscape – lack of rail connectivity, educational, medical/health facilities, depletion of best and most versatile land resulting in increase to flooding risk. Significant increase in traffic movements, impacting local roads around Charlecote and Hampton Lucy as well as Wellesbourne and A429. Significant harm to air quality through increased pollution arising from mineral extraction at wasperton/Barford and increased traffic movements on A429
