We aren't a city, or a town. We are small villages and hamlets. We are rural and agricultural. Stop destroying the British countryside. As if HS2 wasn't bad enough. Nightmare. What about environmental impacts, climate and wildlife? Why not focus on those targets

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

Surrounding cities such as Coventry and Birmingham need supply there fair share and more if housing need. South Warwickshire should under no circumstances be turned into a commuter belt. The M40 is already busy and reaching capacity at certain times if day. It would not be able to carry more traffic into neighbouring cities. Europa Way and Longbridge roundabout are prime examples of traffic saturation at rush hour and have daily issues.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

Factors which make people move out of their local area is not driven by the availability housing stock. It is driven by the desirability and availability of cheap transport. This demographic shift doesn't enhance or strengthen the local culture as the wealth required to live in this new location is not supported by increased wages.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

Brown field sites, derelict housing and unused buildings in Birmingham, Coventry and the Black Country should be regenerated to provide the extra homes required instead of creating sprawling developments that will ruin rural communities and the natural environment for everyone. The infrastructure and employment opportunities are already in place in those areas and bringing thousands of people to live in a greenbelt area of Wilmcote will just increase road traffic which is against current environmental policy.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

I think there is a potential danger in building housing in South Warwickshire to meet unmet demand from these areas some distance away, as this is implicitly saying that the people living in this new developments are intended to travel some distance back to the area that couldn't house them for employment. We run the risk of turning into dormitory towns and villages as found around London, with little local services and a population depending on lots of long distance, often car based, transport.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

Housing forcasts should not include for Birmingham and Black Country, this would increase traffic numbers on already congested roads travelling North to work. In addition the main rail lines from Stratford upon Avon to Birmingham have capacity restrictions due to end of line stations with no sidings or passing areas to increase capacity significantly. The single line to Leamington Spa also has restrictions.
It is also important to maintain the green belt buffer between Birmingham and Stratford for the benifit of all the residents and tourists, in Warwickshire and the West Midlands.

Outside area needs is a 2 way street. These other areas should also be considering "overspill" from SW. As house prices in SW tend to be higher than Coventry, Birmingham & Black Country the overspill demand is likely to be away from SW.

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

There surely needs to the a definition of what reasons can be considered as acceptable for unmet need in other local areas that then require SW to have to provide space in their area to provide space for the unmet needs. People moved into this area and paid (and continue to pay) a considerable premium to do so because of the way its space is allocated and the communities it supports. There must be an agreed and objective set of reasons as to why surrounding and adjoining areas can shift their unmet needs to to SW.

G1 is an isolated rural location. People from Coventry, Birmingham or elsewhere would be cut off from their network of support and identity and from existing friends and family. They would need much improved public transport or private cars to travel to visit them. Social problems such as loneliness, mental health issues and cultural deprivation are a risk.

SWLP should first require those authorities requesting assistance to utilise all existing brownfield sites to the maximum density before considering proposals to release land for development to any other authority. Local Authorities have a duty of care to existing residents and to maintaining the rural nature of South Warwickshire and resist all approaches to pave the green belt

There are many potential brownfield sites in most City areas which are currently wasteland - empty warehouses, office space, etc. Warwickshire and in particular the countryside around Warwick should not suffer desecration because of inefficiencies in neighbouring councils. It's not rocket science - a short train journey from Warwick to Birmingham is all it takes to get an idea of under utilised / derelict buildings and wasteland.

Whilst ultimately I agree with the need to meet housing targets across the country and in all local authorities, I recognise that not all local authorities can meet the required housing need. Therefore, other local authorities should accommodate the needs if available and required. However, they must have the most up to date numbers as it was claimed that Warwick and Leamington had to build 10,000 extra houses a number of years and then a couple of years ago, it was found that this number was inaccurate. However, it is necessary to accommodate growth needs from other areas.

I do not agree with accommodating growth needs from outside the Warwickshire area, Services in Warwickshire are stretched, the current infrastructure is overloaded, If developments are to proceed they will need major investment in Services and infrastructure. I believe more evidence is needed on housing needs, I simply cannot accept that there is a shortfall of 6700 homes in or around Stratford on Avon, ALL IN ADDITION to what has already been approved and built over the last 10 years. I believe, and this has been muted from local organised meetings, that this may accommodate migration from the South AND South East of the country. There is only a demand if you build the properties to entice residents/immigrants to this area!

Crynodeb o'r Gynrychiolaeth:

Having spoken to many residents who have grave concerns about the targeting of rural South Warwickshire for homes to support other administrative areas my personal feelings are that this must be resisted and only agreed to on the basis that additional funding support for infrastructure will come from the authority with the claimed shortfall.
The evidence base for agreeing to additional housing provision should be made widely available to residents. Currently the calculations that give rise to the 'demand' in South Warwickshire due to shortfalls elsewhere are not transparent enough.
