Too much traffic, hurting the wildlife, this is a green space for people to enjoy countryside and exercise, not enough infrastructure and essential boundary between Kenilworth and Leamington. Not suitable for housing at all. Good for growing crops only!

Housing need can be met without building on green belt; exceptional circumstances not present.
Flawed analysis and reliance on removed paragraph 142 (NPPF) undermines Green Belt Review and future selection criteria.
SG06 not a ‘sustainable location’; would promote car use.
SG06 fulfils the five purposes of Green Belt, contributing greatly to ‘openness’ and protecting the settings of historic settlements.
SG06 is high quality agricultural land, important for sustainability and security.
Planning Inspectorate rejected similar proposals in 2017.
SG06 already promotes the principles ‘healthy, safe and inclusive’ and ‘biodiverse and environmentally resilient’.

This includes greenbelt land which should be protected, both because of its amenity value but also its environmental significance.

This is why SG06 should be excluded from the plan .The plan that has been set out has enough capacity without building on valuable green belt land. The area SG06 is home to many kinds of animals roe deer, muntjac deer ,birds of prey such as sparrowhawks ,starlings the list goes on .
SG06 is not a suitable location as it’s a 35 minute walk to leamington train station from the closest point and 1 hour walk from the furthest .
You say that these land parcels need to be near employment all the big Employers are in the south.

The infrastructure for roads and schools cannot support the huge increase in housing in this area. It would also diminish what small green space is left in the North of Leamington

I strongly object to the above plan for many reasons, the main ones being:
Loss of green belt land - there are other more suitable sites.
Loss of much needed farmland - we need to be growing food - not importing it Loss of a much needed and used recreational space for runners, walkers, wildlife enthusiasts, cyclists etc.
This is an unsustainable area.
Our towns should be kept separate not merged together.
Keep our green belt land safe.

Strategic Growth Locations NOT in the Green belt have capacity for 18,500 more dwellings than required by 2050.
Building homes in SG06 would increase car use not reduce it. Nearest transport hub is, on average, over 2 miles from SG06.
SG06 meets all five key criteria for green belt.
The 2024 desk-based assessment of SG06 is deeply flawed. SG06 makes a major contribution to Green Belt Purpose.
SG06 consists of high-quality agricultural land, contributing to food security.
The same proposals were rejected by the Planning Inspector in 2017.

SG06 (North Leamington) is a key part of the green belt separating two towns. Furthermore, it should not be considered as one area as it is two distinct parts of which the western section (Milverton area) is particularly unsuitable for housing development.
It is a much-valued clean-air outdoor space with footpaths that aerial photographs clearly show are heavily used by people of all ages, who access them on foot from their homes for mental and physical fitness and dog walking.
Also the two primary school within direct access of this area are heavily oversubscribed and have been year on year.

I live in North Leamington. SG06 is the only remaining oasis for those in North Leamington to escape from the ever-growing town. In-town parks are constantly occupied by interest groups; SG06 is essential for mental health and wellbeing in North Leamington. There’s a public footpath and a permissive footpath; there’s wildlife and plants already under threat. SG06 is in the green belt. 28,257 new houses need to be found; from Table 5.1 and Table 6.1, I count that there are over 50,000 houses possible in non green-belt land. Think sustainability, climate and mental health: don’t revoke the green belt principle!

There is no need to build on high quality green belt land that contributes to residents' wellbeing, produces sustainable food, supports local biodiversity and prevents encroachment and loss of identity to local villages when there is more than enough sites identified in the Local Plan to build all and more of homes needed on land that is not green belt and less high quality farmland. It will also lead to more car congestion in town with major shopping destinations being south of the river.

The need for new housing is acknowledged, but building in these areas will worsen existing traffic congestion, particularly as employment hubs and transport links are primarily to the south. If development proceeds, it must prioritize high-density housing (townhouses, apartments) with essential amenities: schools, GPs, supermarkets (not convenience stores), and transport hubs. Crucially, existing public footpaths must be preserved.
The South Warwickshire Local Plan suggests a new settlement strategy, with major developments at B1, E1, X1 could meet the majority of housing needs. This approach aims to preserve the character of existing towns while enabling better infrastructure and affordable housing development

Land on the northern edges of Leamington was protected in the green belt to prevent the urban sprawl/ merging with Kenilworth. .
It takes 45 minutes to walk to the station from Old Milverton, therefore it is not a sustainable location within easy access of rail and bus services. People will rely on cars with all the road congestion/ parking issues this includes.
The retail and employments sites are predominantly in south Leamington with poor cross town access routes over the river.
Building in north Leamington would promote car use rather than reduce it.

This is incredibly environmentally destructive! There is a desire to build more houses, but brownfield sites should be considered first. The area around Cubbington has already suffered environmental devastation as a result of HS2. This includes the felled 250-year old Cubbington Pear Tree, along with other signficant habitat loss and reduction in biodiversity. We should do what we can do protect green spaces as their destruction will make the battle against climate change even harder. The potential loss of footpaths and green spaces would deprive dog-walkers and families of important access to the countryside.

This is a valuable agricultural landscape important for biodiversity and providing habitats for protected species, particular birds. This type of open landscape cannot be replaced by any compensation measures. The landscape structured by hedges and old trees is also extensively used by local residents and visitors. This is also high value farmland which should be protected for UK food security. Instead of destroying this landscape by housing, it should be developed in an agroecological way with more trees and regenerative organic farming practices increasing biodiversity.

We do not agree with the proposals for the development of the Green Belt land designated SG06.
Green Belt has to mean something. It cannot be allowed to be picked up and put down at will. It concerns us that the gaps between settlements are fast diminishing which can only lead to urbanisation of our countryside.
This area is prime agricultural land. It is also an area enjoyed by many as access to countryside on their doorstep. Just as important, it is a thriving wildlife habitat which, now more than ever, must be protected.

There are various reasons why I object to the proposed plans for SG06-
South Warwickshire’s housing need can be met without building on greenbelt land
SG06 is not a ‘sustainable location’
The greenbelt around North Leamington continues to fulfil the stated purposes of greenbelt land
The greenbelt review informing the plan is flawed
The farmland is high quality agricultural land and makes an important contribution to sustainability on security of food supply
The same proposals were rejected by the Planning Inspector in 2017
SG06 contributes to the SWLP principles ‘healthy, safe and inclusive’ and ‘biodiverse and environmentally resilient’

The local plan needs to make provisions for 30,000 additional new dwellings, however strategic locations which are not within green belt land have the capacity for 48,500 dwellings. There is no need to develop on top of new green belt land to meet housing needs when other areas are readily available.
The green belt land forms an important function in the local ecosystem and is high quality productive farmland crucial for national food security.
